Prof. Dr. med. Knuth Alexander
Main Field(s) of Research, Abstract
The main field of our
research is the development of innovative treatment modalities for
cancer patients. By eliciting cell-mediated immune responses we aim at
inducing specific immunity against tumor cells. This program consists
of 3 major topics, including clinical trials activities, direct
assessment of tumor reactive T lymphocytes and molecular
biology/SEREX-based antigen discovery. Our institute is affiliated with
the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and the
Cancer Research Institute. Both
institutes have initiated an international cancer vaccine program that
aims at the transition of discoveries from the laboratory in the clinic
and is embedded in a collaborative academic environment. We are
currently initiating clinical trials within this program. There is a
close collaboration to Prof. Dr. E. Jäger at the Krankenhaus Nordwest,
Frankfurt.
