Main Field(s) of Research, Abstract
We are using viral
agents as probes to investigate cell functions. How do viruses utilize
cellular pathways for infection and how is this orchestrated by cell
signalling? How can we use such knowledge to target therapeutic viruses
into diseased cells? We currently focus on adenovirus, a human
DNA-virus causing respiratory and digestive disease. Using a combined
pharmacological, biochemical and reverse genetics approach together
with quantitative video-microscopy, we analyze viral interactions with
cell receptors, endocytosis, signalling, cytoplasmic transport and
viral import into the nucleus. We aim to better define the nature of
both pathogenic and therapeutic viruses and hope to increase our
understanding of fundamental cellular processes in health and disease.
